Meggitt announces launch customers for ATR72 Heavy Duty NuCarb® carbon brakes and wheels

Meggitt PLC, a leading international company specialising in high performance components and sub-systems for the aerospace, defence and energy markets, announces key launch customers for Meggitt’s Heavy Duty NuCarb® carbon brakes and wheels.

Meggitt has supplied wheels and brakes for the ATR72 since the aircraft’s initial certification and entry into service in 1989. Since initial certification, ATR has delivered nearly 1000 ATR72 models and projects future 20 year demand of nearly 2400 aircraft in this market segment. With the ATR72’s longstanding success in the market, underpinned by a strong order book and robust market demand, Meggitt seized the opportunity to improve the life and durability of our product offering.

Meggitt’s new heavy duty equipment includes a range of technology enhancements, including our latest generation of NuCarb® carbon brake and a new wheel specifically designed for long life and improved thermal performance.

Meggitt’s launch customer, Binter has begun the installation of the equipment on their 26 aircraft fleet. Additionally, Binter has firm orders for 6 more aircraft scheduled for delivery through 2019. Finnair, Air Nostrum, Calm Air, HOP! and Azul have also committed to upgrade their ATR72 aircraft with Meggitt’s NuCarb® carbon brakes and wheels with a combined existing fleet of over 50 aircraft.

Luke Durudogan, President of Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems, said: ‘Meggitt is proud to be introducing our NuCarb® technology into a superior ATR72 wheel and brake offering. This development builds on our longstanding relationship with ATR to bring state of the art technology to the ATR72 aircraft. We are grateful for the trust Binter Canarias, Finnair, Air Nostrum, Calm Air, HOP! and Azul have placed in Meggitt following their rigorous selection processes which further underlines the performance of our innovative aircraft braking technology’.
