Meggitt Avionics secures Apache Longbow contract continuation from Boeing |
Meggitt Avionics has received follow-on orders from The Boeing Company for the Helicopter Air Data System (HADS) for the AH-64D Apache Longbow. These cover hardware deliveries through 2010 and continued programme management and engineering support as part of a long-term agreement covering the Apache through 2012.
Meggitt’s Helicopter Air Data System (HADS) is a unique solution to the problems of helicopter air data measurement. Using a swivelling pitot probe, a modern digital air data computer and proprietary algorithms, the system measures air speed accurately across the complete flight envelope. Air data provided by HADS is essential for effective fire control and provides better information for flight control and navigation than conventional systems.
Meggitt Avionics Sales & Marketing Director, Simon Riddiford commented: “We are proud to be a part of Team Apache and welcome the opportunity to continue the excellent relationship we have with Boeing on this important programme.” For further information please contact

It was the first company to market an entirely solid state standby flight display system. Current innovations include air data systems for helicopters, including the unique very low speed system helicopter air data system (HADS), which provides accurate air speed down to zero knots.
- The Meggitt group, which employs around 8,000 people, designs and makes high performance components and systems for aerospace and defence but applies its core sensing and controls technologies to land and marine-based gas turbines and the medical, mainstream industrial, test engineering and transportation sectors. Meggitt’s aerospace products and sub-systems include wheels and brakes and anti-skid systems, thermal management systems, electronic control, fire, overheat and smoke detection and polymer and composite seals. Its sensing systems businesses cover aerospace and industrial condition-monitoring and high-performance sensing. Meggitt’s training businesses provide comprehensive live and virtual weapons training on land, in the air and at sea and its core combat support products include ammunition-handling, electronics cooling and countermeasure launch and recovery systems. Meggitt’s key customers include Agusta Westland, Airbus, BAE Systems, Boeing, EADS General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Rolls-Royce, the UK Ministry of Defence and US Department of Defense.
