Commissioned by the Police Coast Guard in July 2009, the $18 million facility was created by Meggitt and Force Technology to house a range of marine scenario simulation equipment. This includes two motion simulators designed to replicate the feeling of a moving vessel. A wraparound screen provides a 240° simulated view of the Singapore coastline. Six degrees of motion, combined with highly realistic graphics, enable crews to practice the application of force, weapons and boat handling, blind pilotage and command and control in a variety of tactical environments.
The upgrade will add a simulation of the Coast Guard’s newest vessel, a coastal patrol craft carrying a 25mm naval gun with a remote fire control system. Other enhancements include simulated throttle and steering against tide, current and waves. Delivery is set for March 2011, while the package includes three years of site-based system support and maintenance starting in March 2010.
Rich Haddad, President of Meggitt Training Systems commented: ““This world-class training centre for one of the most sophisticated customers in the region showcases all our capabilities and its continued investment in the centre validates the training value Meggitt delivers. This latest contract highlights our ability to provide effective and flexible solutions supporting the coast guard’s evolving training requirements.”
